History v2

In July 1979, a group of general surgeons who frequently handled digestive system surgery gathered in Bali to establish the Indonesian Association of Digestive Surgeons (IKABDI) as a foundation for developing subspecialty education in Digestive Surgery. Non-formal education, using an internship model, began in 1980 at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Hasan Sadikin Hospital, and Dr. Sutomo Hospital. After 22 years of preparation, the Indonesian College of Digestive Surgery was officially established in 1998 to develop competency standards and a national curriculum. In 2008, three new education centers were opened: Dr. Kariadi Hospital in Semarang, Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husada Hospital in Makassar, and Prof. Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta to meet the need for digestive surgery services in Indonesia.

In 1977, subspecialty education in Surgical Oncology began at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital. Cipto Mangunkusumo University, Jakarta, with the aim of producing doctors with academic abilities equivalent to a doctoral program and high clinical skills in handling solid tumor cases (head & neck, breast, skin, and soft tissue). In 1984, PERABOI was recognized as part of IKABI so that the educational curriculum was formally compiled through the National Assessment Council/PERABOI Collegium, and to date there are 8 educational centers throughout Indonesia. RSUP dr. Kariadi Semarang has started Subspecialty Education in Oncology Surgery since 2008.
